Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Fort Worth HOG Chapter different?

OUR MEMBERS and the sponsorship of our DEALERSHIP.  Between the HOG and DEALERSHIP events, I doubt you will find a week or weekend without an activity or a ride. We take the extra effort to make sure that NEW members feel welcome and enjoy our activities.  We actively promote fun, safe riding by sponsoring a wide variety of different rides for our memebers - Early bird breakfast rides, short rides. long rides, overnighters, our dealer rides, HOG mileage programs and the ABC's of Touring. There is something there for every rider.

When and where do we meet?

Our chapter meeting and LOH meeting are both held on the first Saturday of the month at 12:00 noon.  The meetings are held at Billy Bobs in Fort Worth where not only are our meetings indoors, snacks are provided - however you can order lunch and drinks during our meetings.

Where do I get my Fort Worth HOG patches and pins?

You may purchase branded patches and pins from the Fort Worth Harley-Davidson Motor Clothes department.

How do I find out about rides?

You can read about our rides by visiting our website, checking the online "Event Calendar", at our chapter meetings, or from the chapter newsletter.  Members may receive a printed newsletter in the mail monthly or you can simply go to our Members Only area and download a PDF version instantly. Also, check out our online forum for details on upcoming rides and have the chance to express your ideas, questions, opinions, or comments.

Downloading the Newsletter online helps the chapter save money.  We pass the benefit on to our members by offering more free activities and more giveaways.

How can I connect with other members?

Check out our online Forum.  It is open to all Members and registered Members can read posts, make posts, poke fun, banter, complain, and laugh online. The best way to connect with other members is to attend our chapter meetings, our rides, or dealer events.  Then, its just a matter of introducing yourself to everyone there.

Where do I go if I'm having a problem?

You may experience a problem on a ride.  Feeling ill, needing to slow down, another member posing a safety risk, mechanical problems, and unexpectedly needing to leave the ride are issues that should be brought to the attention of the Road Captains at the next rest stop or the destination.  Our RCs are understanding and caring.  If you're having a problem, please speak up.  Chances are, if you're having a problem, someone else is too.

For Mechanical breakdowns, make sure you have upgraded your Road Side Assistance with HOG to at least the second level of coverage. Then you are assured unlimited towing to the nearest HD dealership. It is SO definitely worth the cost.  If you break down on a ride, the RC will stay with you and assist you with RSA.

If your problem extends beyond the road, contact the director.

Being a Road Captain sounds like fun, where can I get an application?

We currently have 11 road captains who are volunteers, to plan, schedule, help other RC's, and lead rides.  Our road captains and officers do not receive any compensation from the chapter or the dealership for their roles.  Check out the FORMS section of our website for the Road Captain minimum requirements and talk to any of our Road Captains for more information. The officers are nominated by the Director and current officers, and affirmed by the dealership.  There is no restriction on how long an officer may serve.

If you're interested in becoming a Road Captain or officer, speak to our Director, any officer, or a RC to find out more information on becoming involved.

How do I contact our officers?

Check the CONTACT US section of our website for specific email addresses, or just call the dealership and ask to speak to our Director.

How do I go on a ride?

Alcohol Policy

Our alcohol policy is very simple.  No consumption of alcohol before or during a ride.  Road Captains reserve the right to invite someone to leave if they suspect a person is under the influence.

Once the kickstand hits the ground at the final destination, the ride is officially over, and you may do whatever the law and your conscience allows.  This applies to multi-day rides as well.  Once the kickstand hits the dirt at the motel, the ride is over.

Dress/Riding Apparel Policy

Our dress code/riding apparel policy is very simple.  No Shorts, open toed or open heeled shoes, or anything that may make your or others' ride unsafe. Helmets are a matter of local laws and your personal preference.

Where can I submit a suggestion?  I have an idea for a ride or event!

We are always looking for suggestions for rides or events. If you have a suggestion, e-mail it to our Activities Officer or any of our road captains, submit it to the online FORUM, submit an email to our Director, or put it in the suggestion box at Fort Worth H-D.

Where do I sign up?  How do I become a member of Fort Worth HOG?

You must first become a member of National Harley Owners Group (HOG).  Go to the National HOG Site  and join online.  They will send you an email confirmation with your National HOG number (US-12345678). Bring that email to any Ft.Worth Chapter event and complete the New Member application and you will get your new Ft Worth HOG Chapter ID card immediately.  Its that simple!!  National HOG will send your National HOG ID card, pin, and patch within 3 to 6 weeks.

Question: Why is it that we shouldn't post an "unofficial ride" on the Forum for those that may want to do something different on a weekend where there is a HOG or Dealer Event/Ride posted. It was suggested that since we cannot publish a phone list, that we might post something out on the Forum. I was also told that it should be ok as long as it clearly states that it is an "unofficial ride" and not sanctioned by the chapter or the dealership.

Answer: Our HOG Chapter, like all HOG chapters, are under the supervision of a Sponsoring Dealership. With that in mind, we are not allowed to have links to competitor shops or questionable material from our website. National HOG mandates that HOG is a family oriented group. Unfortunately, links to the Rally's such as the"Biker Adult Rally" is not a HOG sanctioned event and are not allowed. Event Web Sites sponsored by OTHER than HOG may contain links to other motorcycle shops and the adult nature of the rally itself. Our forum is watched and screened for activity that doesn’t fit the guidelines we are given. The forum is designed to allow HOG members an opportunity to communicate with each other about a variety of subjects and support the Chapter. It is not set up to provide a place to advertise products (classifieds), as a biker dating service, to air grievances, or to set up rides that would take away from our chapter activities.

Members are encouraged to get out there and ride together on “unofficial” rides and can talk about where they plan to go on the forum. It gets confusing when it is in direct conflict with an official HOG chapter event. It may also become more confusing if the “unofficial” ride takes on an “official” appearance, including meeting at the dealership to begin the "unofficial ride".. Then the chapter may become liable. As officers, we have to watch this very carefully to protect our chapter, our officers and our membership.

One suggestion is, if several people were talking about going on an "unofficial ride", get their phone numbers and call each other or email each other directly. That will keep it out of the chapter forum and avoid any confusion or problems.
